The Electric Vehicle Subsidy Scheme

The Government of Jersey Electric Vehicle (EV) Subsidy scheme offers Jersey residents and local business up to £3,500 off the price of new or used electric vehicle. The vehicles must be:

  • Purely electric – hybrid vehicles are not included
  • Bought through a local approved retailer – that includes us!
  • Newly registered in Jersey - unfortunately, cars and vans previously owned in Jersey don't qualify
  • Sold at £40,000 or less including GST
  • Purchased after 29th August 2023
  • Owned by the applicant for at least six months once they have taken delivery of the vehicle

To apply you must be over 16 years old and resident in Jersey. You can buy more than one vehicle per household providing each vehicle is purchased in a different person’s name.

Local business can buy up to five cars and vans using the subsidy.

The full £3,500 subsidy at JEMEC

All the electric cars and vans we sell at JEMEC through the scheme will be eligible for the full £3,500 subsidy. This is because there are no electric vehicles for under £10,000 which we would feel comfortable selling. They will either be too old, or with too many miles on the clock, for us to confidently provide our two-year warranty.

Using your subsidy as a finance deposit

One of the big benefits of the scheme is that, subject to approval from a finance company, you can potentially use your subsidy as a finance deposit for a vehicle – which means you wouldn’t have to dip into your savings to pay a deposit.

How to apply for the Jersey Electric Vehicle Subsidy

You can only apply for a subsidy through a local approved vehicle retailer at the point you order or buy a car or a van.

Step 1

Once you have identified a vehicle you like and have agreed your order, we can then fill out a small online form with you in our showroom. It takes no longer than five minutes to complete. You will need to have with you proof of identity (a passport or driving licence) plus proof of address (a bank statement or utility bill from the last three months). If you are buying on behalf of a business we will need proof of address, proof of identify for the person buying the car plus the registration detail of the business in Jersey (which can be downloaded for free from the JFSC website).

Step 2

You will receive an email from the EV Scheme administrators which asks you to agree to the terms and conditions of the scheme – and to confirm that the information you have provided in correct.

Step 3

The EV Scheme administrators confirm to you and to us at JEMEC that your subsidy has been approved

Step 4

The rest of the vehicle purchase continues as normal. Once we have received payment from you for your balance and your vehicle in on-Island and ready to go, the team at JEMEC applies directly to the Government of Jersey for the payment of the subsidy

Step 5

Once we have received the subsidy from the Government of Jersey, we can hand over your lovely new vehicle!
